“Renew our environment” is one of the five initiatives of Mary
Baldwin’s 10-year strategic plan, Composing
Our Future. To embark upon
that process in a focused and effective way, in May 2005 the Mary Baldwin
College Board of Trustees engaged Geier Brown Renfrow Architects to collaborate
with the college to develop a campus master plan. Building on the college’s
strategic vision, the campus planning process began with the analysis of
existing campus systems and defining our facilities needs.
Following months of broad-based conversations with MBC faculty, staff, and
students, consensus was reached and the campus master plan was crafted.
The document provides a flexible framework for ensuring that the MBC campus
supports academic excellence, personal transformation, and a rich and inclusive
community. It was accepted and endorsed by the Board of Trustees on February
3, 2006. Transforming Our Environment 1842–2042 balances practical realities
with a compelling vision for the future.
