Commencement will be held on Page Terrace as scheduled this morning at 10 a.m.

In making the decision to hold the ceremony outdoors on campus despite the iffy weather, President Fox kept in mind the strong preference of the Class of 2013.

Family and friends attending today's ceremony should use their best judgment regarding rain gear. Since the grassy hillside could be slippery should it become wet, we encourage guests to wear appropriate footwear and as always exercise appropriate caution.

Congratulations to all those who will receive their degrees today, and deepest thanks to all the family and friends whose support helped them along the way.

These seven words represent the distilled essence of the 2010 update to the Mary Baldwin College strategic plan, Composing Our Future 2.0: Mary Baldwin College 2015. The process began in 2003–04, the first year of Dr. Pamela Fox’s presidency, when she led the community in a broad-based conversation about who we are as an institution and what our future should hold. The result was Composing Our Future: Mary Baldwin College 2014. Each year since then specific goals and priorities have been established, and each year we have made demonstrable progress on the route we have mapped.

Our overarching goal has been to ensure a thriving future for Mary Baldwin College so that it can continue to do what it does best: empower students in the liberal arts and sciences to compose lives of purpose as confident, compassionate changemakers — people who effect positive change in the world.

Since 1842 Mary Baldwin College has had a radical belief in the power of women to achieve their full potential, and our Residential College for Women retains its historic mission of serving women. Today, men as well as women benefit from the college’s exceptional adult and graduate programs.
