Camp Counselor

I'm Kelly Stein i'm a former student and I have a great summer job opportunity for anyone interested. I am working at a Girl Scout summer camp and we need more counselors. I work at Camp May Flather & it's one of the oldest Girl Scout camps and is located in the George Washington National Forest, not far from Mary Baldwin. The camp is part of the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital, and this council also has three other resident camps in the DC metro area; Camp Potomac Woods & Camp Coles Trip which are also in Virginia, and Camp Winona which is located in Maryland.

Girls come from all over Virginia, Maryland, and DC for one and two week sessions from June thru August to participate in many different programs based on their interests and age. At camp our job as counselors is to teach the girls everything from how to sing camp songs, and work as a team to how to canoe and rock climb. We help them have the best camp experience they can while keeping them safe in all their activities.

Camp May Flather, in particular, is mainly an adventure based camp with many programs with activities like rock climbing, caving and a low ropes course. We also have a few arts & crafts centered programs and every program/group gets to participate in basic camp activities such as hiking, swimming, cooking out over a campfire and singing camp songs & playing camp games.

As a counselor you get to meet and make friends with all sorts of great girls from all over the world, and you get to spend your summer having fun with girls of all ages while teaching them new things. It is an amazing and unique experience you will never forget.

May Flather is currently looking for counselors that are available between June 12th and August 18th and lifeguards that are available June 4th - Ausust 18th. If you are a strong swimmer you can still be considered for a lifeguard position, as we provide American Red Cross certification.

Required Education and Experience:

There is no experience required, and no education reguirement, but there is an age requirement. To be a counselor you must be at least 18 years old & to be a lifegaurd you must be over 21 by june and have a valid driver's license.
